Transvaal

Once you’ve arrived at the station, you’re just a hop, skip and a jump away from this incredible guest house, situated right in the centre of Marseille. You’ll find it hard to believe you’re in the city centre once you get there. With its large garden and spacious suites, this guest house in a century-old townhouse just seems to have been dropped here, far from the hustle and bustle of the city, to offer you a peaceful night’s sleep. When you make your booking, choose one of the three suites – Saffron, Plantation or Cabanon. They are all differently and tastefully decorated. Once you’ve had a restful night’s sleep, come down to the lounge and sit in front of the roaring fire in winter or head into the garden in summer. Whether you’re in the lounge or in the garden, an excellent breakfast prepared by your hosts will give you all the energy you need to explore Marseille!

A stone’s throw from Marseille’s Saint Victor district – where you’ll find many of our recommended restaurants – you’ll also find Hôtel Le M. There’s no missing its duck-blue façade. Step through the door of this three-star establishment, which has all the hallmarks of a grand hotel: small, cosy and tastefully decorated rooms, a large breakfast buffet and a friendly welcome. Charlotte Brunet and Olivier Amsellem transformed a derelict building into a warm and unique B&B using the original concrete, brick and stone walls. With its large dining table, pretty, colourful outdoor patio, vintage furniture and the comfort of open-plan living, this is a rather unusual accommodation option. Tip: in the morning, take a short walk to the Calanque de Samena cove for an early stroll by the sea.
